The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform soon, and fan speculation has been intense.
The first season presents a diverse group of characters living within the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs about their clashes, and builds heated competitions and emotional bonds that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for season 2 vary widely, but certain threads emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with fan service specifically in mind," the showrunner commented recently. "But I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and clearly some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That could imply fans have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they could be shocked at how fast the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some fascinating backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — especially in the form of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about season 2," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
