The star has given the complete sum of his £25,000 award cash to the Music Venues Trust, which functions to save the UK's independent music venues.

Fender was awarded the award on mid-October as his latest record People Watching was declared the top album of the past year.

The musician has opted to hand the money over to the Music Venues Trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots fulfilled in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved this success if it weren't for all the shows I did around the North East, and beyond, when I was starting out," remarked Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have ceased operations – roughly one-sixth of the total UK scene.

Recently, major artists including the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

He also joined in, collecting more than £100,000 on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight local spots across Britain.

The donation supported venues that were confronting possible closure due to difficulties caused by flooding, fire incidents and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations were granted funding support in modernizing amenities and gear that helped artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has said.

"And I donated a grand to the center, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," she explained to outlets.

Previously, Ezra Collective contributed their prize money to the youth organization that supported their act, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year they contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the condition.

"The victory was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The money was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success touched the lives of others."

Recently, the MVT announced it had saved two small stages in the South East, by bringing them into community ownership.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were bought under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by a national body and supporters who buy "stakes" in the buildings.
